Covid-19: Year One - Autumn and Winter / by Juha Berglund

Here’s the second batch of photos I took during the year of COVID-19 lock-down. The first set is here.

The spring is almost here! At least it should be, according to the calender. It’s April and it snowed today again. Oh dear. It’s not just the spring; everything else seems to take an eternity this year as well. A post-Brexit delivery I ordered took five weeks to arrive from UK thanks to all the added bureaucracy. Our new couch was delayed by additional two months. I’m currently holding my breath waiting to see which one I get first: the COVID-19 vaccine or a Playstation 5 I ordered half a year ago. It’s not looking pretty for the Sony Corporation since my first jab is already scheduled. Losing against the stagnant EU and Big Pharma is quite an embarrassing underachievement for a tech giant.

With all the waiting, it’s going to be yet another long year. Which is great, because it is slowing down my aging.

Autumn is in the air.

Another forest walk with the Montbell lady.

We did only one trip the whole year, to the eastern parts of the Finland.

Lake Pielinen.

First snow of the winter.

This year the winter actually arrived! Having plenty of snow is quite uplifting.

Our new home is next to a small forest.

I made it a lunch break habit to take a walk in the forest.

More of our “backyard”.

There’s also a little lake.

Sunday walk on the ice off the Espoo coast.

Tallinn, Estonia, would be a 90km walk away on the other shore.

For once, we had a sufficient amount of snow even here on the “sunny” South Coast of Finland.

…another day walk.

Home street. We bought our new home in December.

Typical night skyline from the second largest city of Finland. 😄

Hello Helsinki!

Amos Rex art museum.

We spent a day in the city just walking around. It’s eerie to see the it without tourists.

Suomenlinna ferry operates in every weather.

Helsinki City Hall.

Kids were having fun on the steps of Helsinki Cathedral.

…and of course my wife had to slide down the steps too.

The yard outside of my new home office is full of little birds. Blackbirds, great tits, sparrows, etc. I’ve been shooting the birds hand-held through the window while getting bored in meetings, therefore the image quality is not great.

Despite the Team Sweden colours, this little guy (all puffed up due to the cold weather) is my favourite: the Eurasian blue tit.

So much sunlight! The spring is almost here.

Perhaps the last sunrise of the winter. That’s it, thanks!
